Description
Old Buckenham Aerodrome served as a U.S. Army Air Forces base during World War II and was home to the 453rd Bombardment Group. Located near Attleborough in Norfolk, England, it provided a strategic base for bomber missions over occupied Europe due to its proximity to the east coast and continental targets.
Today, the aerodrome houses two museums dedicated to preserving its wartime legacy. The 453rd Bombardment Group Museum contains the largest collection of memorabilia from the group, which operated B-24 Liberators from the airfield during World War II. The museum also features the 8th Air Force Heritage Gallery, sharing personal stories of U.S. servicemen and women stationed in East Anglia during the war .
Old Buckenham is at the forefront of sustainable aviation in the UK. It hosts the country’s first electric aircraft charging point, powered entirely by solar energy, making it the fourth such facility globally.
