Denham Aerodrome is located near Denham, Buckinghamshire, within the M25 towards the west of London. It is home to the local flying school, The Pilot Centre.
Aircrafts have been flying at Denham Aerodrome since the early 1900s. It was used during both World Wars as a flying training school for Flight Cadets. It was known as RAF Denham during these times.
The airfield was first licensed as a private use airfield to Squadron Leader J. M. Bickerton in 1938. The airfield was the home to one of the earliest parachuting clubs in the UK, starting in 1955 the “British Parachute Club” was based here until May 1956 when they moved to Blackbushe Airport in Hampshire. The club at Denham was run by instructor Dumbo Willans and was also known as the “No. 1 Civil Parachute Training School”.
Currently, there are a number of charter and flight instruction and filming operators based at Denham Aerodrome as well as a helicopter maintenance facility. The Aerodrome is also home to Biggles Restaurant, named after the fictional airman of that name, and a small café called “The Crew Room” on the north side of the airfield.
Denham Aerodrome has been beautifully recreated by Burning Blue Design’s modellers and coders undertaking on-site visits. We have also collaborated with actual pilots based at Denham to ensure the highest levels of accuracy. It features:
- Over 80 custom 3D objects have been created exclusively for Denham Aerodrome, each with full Physical Based Rendering (PBR) textures.
- Enhanced high resolution colour corrected ground textures.
- Highly detailed control tower and café interiors.
- Working analogue weather instrument in control room.
- Completely custom ‘hanging-style’ windsock.
- Dynamic objects and visitors change depending on the time of day.
- Numerous custom aircraft have been added around Denham to enhance the realism and better reflect actual aircraft found at the airfield:
- De Havilland Chipmunk
- ‘The Pilot Centre’ Cessna 152’s
- Robinson R44 (HQ Aviation)
- Correct AI pattern procedures and accurate taxiway and runway placement.

This airport is an absolute gem. There is so much to see here, so many lovely little details. I spent an hour exploring it in VR, it has a real charm to it. There’s an old war bunker that you can walk down into. You can’t go inside but you stand down in the tunnel area andget a sense of the place. The Biggles resturaunt gazeebo is a lovely place to sit and have a think about your life, whilst the crew cafe offers great cake. Get there before 4 pm though or else they run out. I got this for about 8 quid as part of the spend over £25 and get 20 percent off deal. It’s a bargain.

As someone who works at Denham, I can say with confidence that this rendition of Denham by BBD is about as accurate as it gets. The attention to detail is staggering from the working Wind and Barometer dials in the Tower to the beautiful menu in the Crewroom cafe. People coming and going depending on the time of the day is a great addition and should not be overlooked. The stunning old WWII hanger on the Northside that now houses the Chipmonk is beautifully modelled. I love the fact BBD have included the static TPC aircraft is really adds to the realism. BBD should be commended for this, I also pointed out the traffic pattern was incorrect for 24 via the Discord forum and within a few days it was amended and a new version published, fantastic. A must buy for any GA enthusiast.

I’d say 4.7 for this one simply because I’m tight with stars! It is a gem (stole that from Kevin!) even though it’s quite a small field. It has all the character you need with worrying attention to detail like slices of cake in the cafe. It’s a short hop from Elstree, White Waltham, Fair Oaks and Heathrow. Definitely a must have
